  • United States House of Representatives  for California’s 32nd congressional district, serving since 2009
  • Member of the U.S. House Committee on the Judiciary and the U.S. House Committee on Small Business
  • Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC)
  • The Monterey Park City Council (with terms as mayor)
  • The California State Assembly

Dr. Chu is the first Chinese American woman ever elected to the United States Congress, and was reelected in the 2010 United States midterm elections, defeating Republican challenger Edward "Ed" Schmerling, was named by California Journal as one of California’s top new legislators.

In the 112th Congress, Rep. Chu serves on the House Judiciary Committee, where she is a member of the Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security and the Intellectual Property, Competition, and the Internet subcommittees. She is also a member of the House Small Business Committee, where she is leading the Contracting and Workforce Subcommittee as the Ranking Democrat and serves on the Economic Growth, Tax and Capital Access and Agriculture, Energy and Trade Subcommittees. In 2011, she was elected as the Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC).
